When Tomorrow Comes is a K/S story by Charlotte Frost.

It was published in the print zine First Time #28.

Summary

From the publisher: "Kirk is about to tell Spock of his love when Spock is abducted. When he's found, Kirk is afraid that Spock would now be repulsed by that love."

Excerpt

"Kirk stepped into his cabin, grateful for the hiss of the door that signaled privacy. It had been difficult getting away from her, but he'd finally managed. Princess Duora was a woman accustomed to getting what she wanted. And she had wanted the famous starship captain, if only for a night."

The Author's Comments

I think this might have been my “slave” story. Only, it was more a rebellion against a certain aspect of slave stories. It really, really bothered me when poor Spock (usually) would get kidnapped, turned into some evil person’s sex slave, and then when he was rescued and continued to behave like a slave (because of his conditioning) Kirk would get *aroused*. Okay, I’m not a guy and I can’t claim to know what it’s like to have a penis. I just find it rather unbelievable that, rather than being appalled, Kirk would get a hard-on at seeing his friend being so submissive (especially while out of his head). I’d read one too many stories like that and had to try my hand at a creative rejection of the concept. I remember a fan friend scolding me, “I can’t believe you wrote such a trite story as that!” Well…. I wanted to get a point across, even if the surrounding story was kind of lame. Don’t know if the point translated to the readers; I don’t recall ever hearing much about it. [1]

Reactions and Reviews

1991

I loved the idea of Kirk practicing so that he could last long enough to give Spock the loving he deserved. It is rare that sex as an expression of love is so well presented. [2]

1992

I'm usually the first, as an author, to avoid including the sex scene when I can, and, as a reader, usually skip over the repetitive ones. I felt, however, that this story, after the focus on sex at the beginning and the trauma to Spock, needed a love scene. Perhaps it was the author's intention by not including the scene to contrast the difference more dramatically. For me, including a very loving encounter would have served the purpose better. [3]

Interesting that Kirk was doing some full-blown fantasizing, then could not think of Spock in that way anymore once Spock was in a life-threatening situation. Good plot even though much-used, of Spock's going missing and being sold as a slave. Kirk's character is apt -- deep, caring and also sexy. A sweetly painful scenario. I like them not rushing into anything; and it Bade Spock's sudden initiative stand out all the more. Really nice non-explicit sex. I wanted more though. Logical outcome. Very enjoyable story, well written. [4]

1995

Good, solid work-horse of a story of Kirk fantasizing about his first officer. Spock is then kidnapped, sold into slavery and rescued. But the focus of the story is Kirk's struggle to come to terms with his desire for Spock and the fact that Spock had been brutalized.

Lots of tender moments, lots of warm fuzzies and good resolution to their predicament.

I just wasn't quite sure how I felt about their love-making. Kirk says: "All right, Spock. I'm going to love you. Like you've never been loved before." That's great, except then wexut to the crashing-waves-on-the-rocks and the first line of the subsequent scene is: "It didn't go like he wanted, but after it was all over he didn't care, for Spock didn't seem to care." Oh. Well. so much for unparalleled romance. [5]
