Reactions and Reviews

1990

This was a nice, tight vignette with a surprise ending that was touching and appropriate. It was more serious than what this author usually writes, and I liked that aspect.

It was a little difficult to follow with all the switching back and forth between first-person narrative and third-person. McCoy's thoughts needed to be italicized or underlined, which if the authors didn't do, the editors should have.

Usually, I dislike 'death' stories. This one was painless. In fact the first two pages were adorable, and by the time you realized...they were together, all three of them, and that always makes everything OK again. [1]

2000

A real surprise lies hidden in these three short pages. McCoy’s reminiscing while waiting for his two best friends to arrive from an unknown place is very well done. He remembers the first day the command team became lovers and how everyone on the bridge could tell because of the light in their eyes. You can just see it! But, as I said, a very unexpected ending.[2]

2009

Sad. Bittersweet. Uplifting. All this in two and a half pages. A beautifully poignant look into McCoy's thoughts as he waits for his two dearest friends. His memories are lovely and touching and the end will swell your heart to breaking. [3]
