Vanessa Ives is a main character on the show Penny Dreadful.
Canon
Vanessa is introduced as a powerful and mysterious medium. Her supernatural powers are a burden that open her up to attacks from the agents of Fallen Angels. She is hunted by the Devil, who wants her to be the Mother of Evil and rule by his side. Vanessa has in the past been committed to a mental asylum for her erratic behavior and hallucinations. During the first season she is possessed by the Devil and an exorcism must be performed. Vanessa's Catholic faith gives her the strength to fight her demons, and the belief that her soul is her own.
