A Userscript is a piece of Javascript injected into a website client side, in order to make certain features of the browsing experience more pleasant for the individual. In fan spaces, a popular example of this is to emulate what the Ponify extension used to do; fans of Reader-Insert fiction can use a userscript in order to change instances of Y/N to read as their own name. This can help to further immerse the reader into the story.
Other types of userscripts can be website specific, such as various AO3 functionality change userscripts.
