Although You Were Named After was a widespread meme that many people engaged with across the web, argumate made so many of these jokes that it became an injoke among people who follow them for years afterwards.

Timeline/Background

  • The name is from The Deathly Hallows epilogue (book published 2007)
  • Not sure when the meme began but it was going strong on Tumblr in March 2015[1]
    • Oh, You Were Named After fanlore page says "The meme seems to have begun in 2013, but discussion about the name has been ongoing since the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in July 2007." -- no citation tho
  • Argumate joined tumblr (or at least their blog archive dates back to) January 2015
