Reactions and Reviews
This Mirror-Spock-in-Pon-Farr story contained a twist in that neither Kirk nor Spock were responsible for their alliance; instead, other Vulcans obeying Sarek's orders forced the two together during Spock's mating time. The situation caused an unwanted conflict and produced a rare tenderness in both characters, who had each thought himself above such sentimentality. This story had a genuine nobleness about it and, without being very long, managed to produce a Kirk character who was complex and believable given the circumstances of the plot. I particularly liked the paragraph on page 57 where the captain reflected upon Spock's "tender, fierce lovemaking that he wanted to escape.... he needed time to repair the damaged defenses he needed just to survive day to day." Those few sentences defined Kirk poignantly. In fact as satisfying as was, I was left wishing I drop on in on these particular Mirror characters some time in the near future. It would be interesting to see where they're at. [1]
A unique idea: Mirror Sarek has ordered Spock's operatives to bring Kirk to him in his pon farr. So they are trapped together in Spock's cabin. Spock wants Kirk; Kirk is willing to help. With Spock purposely making it pleasurable for Kirk, Kirk can't help but love it can he?Three days of sex—quite fine. They both love it. And what a poignant sadness, when they know it's the last time, that pon farr is over.... This is when they meld for the first time.
Beautiful love, especially in the Empire. Very nice story. [2]
