Two of a Kind is a Kirk/Spock story by Natasha Solten.

It was published in Charisma #11.

Summary

"In this alternate look at Kirk's visit to the "Mirror" universe, our captain has an encounter with the bearded Spock that stuns him to the core. Unaware that Kirk is not who he seems to be, Spock treats him accordingly in his private chambers (with a whip!) until a panicked Kirk reveals his true nature, and who he really is. This story follows Kirk from that unusual encounter all the way back to the ENTERPRISE where he must face off with his own first officer, and admit to the strange dichotomy of feelings that have so recently overcome him."

Reactions and Reviews

I thought to myself: “What did I buy now?” Charisma 11 doesn’t amount to much. That was before I came upon this, the last story in the zine, which more than made up for my previous disappointment. In fact, this story made me decide to keep the zine. I usually like Natasha Solten’s stories very much and though there are two in this zine — ”Farmboy” and “Two of a Kind” — only this one grabbed me. I can’t give you a detailed account why I liked it so much. The only thing I can say is that it left me with a feeling of contentment and joy as if everything was right in my universe.[1]

This is the "Mirror, Mirror" story with sex...done yet again...and done quite well. It's a very erotic story. Of course, it is hard to write about a sex scene with Spock and Kirk without being erotic! It's about 40 pages and centers on Kirk and Spock in the a/u Spock's quarters.

I especially liked some small parts such as:

"Kirk trembled, then gave a half- smile. 'Damn you.'
'What?' He truly looked perplexed. 'You don't need a teacher...'

This comes after a long segment where Kirk is trying to explain things to Spock about how it is with his universe and his Spock. He's trying to tell him what love can be like, but is tricked (?????) into showing him. It's really hard to tell which one is the teacher and exactly what "lesson" is being taught. (This isn't because of poor writing, but because the characters are mystified themselves.) Kirk is very ambivalent in his feelings and confused by his actions. His body betrays him, or does it? The a/u Spock doesn't know what to make of this gorgeous Kirk in his bed who says he doesn't want him (especially with the whip) but really does.

This is a story I'll read again several times.[2]
