Reactions and Reviews

1989

This is a valiant attempt at something that I'd be afraid to try.

It's awfully hard to write even a very short story in the second person. To my ear, it sounds awkward every time Kirk (the narrator) tells Spock (the listener, or reader) something that Spock did. I think to make it come off, you need to be careful to refer only in passing to the other person's actions. Not "you did this," but, "when you did this, I felt this." [1]

1994

A lovely, imaginative short story. Kirk and Spock are on a planet with sentient unicorns who urge them to love each other. An unusual POV that made for a very intense reading experience -- first person present tense Kirk, as if telling Spock his story of their shared first-time experiences. I loved also how one of the unicorns was in love with Spock -- of course. Poetic, gorgeous, heart-stoppingly sexy. [2]

2002

Unusual perspective: a narrative by Kirk, talking to Spock, remembering how they came to find each other in a land of sentient horses. It's cute when one of the young male beings starts "horsing around" with Spock, trying to pull off his clothing. Horses, after all, leave it all hanging out, why shouldn't the humanoids?? Very short, but enjoyable and certainly different. It accompanies the covers, by Marilyn Cole, which depict Kirk and Spock with Unicorns. [3]
