The Warriors is a 1979 film with a cult following.
Fandom Overview
The film has a very small presence in transformative fandom, on sites like FanFiction.Net, where the film's filter is "Warriors" with no additional context except being in the Movies section, the filter is often confused for Warrior Cats and filled with unrelated content; but is somewhat popular among film fans, with certain iconic scenes having been referenced in canons like The Simpsons. The film, which remains the most-known form of the story, is based on a 1965 novel by Sol Yurick. Tie-in comic books and a video game by Rockstar Games have expanded on the material presented in the film.
In 2016, a TV series by the Russo brothers was said to be in development. In 2018 it was reported that the series had moved to Netflix, with little news reported since.
Critical Reception and Fanbase
The Warriors Movie Site, run by Gareth Jones, hosts a large forum and posts updates on Warriors events, products, scholarship, and other work by the film's actors. In 2017, TWMS sponsored The Warriors UK Conclave, the first Warriors con in the UK.
Warriors cons are often called "Conclaves", in a reference to the massive gathering of different gangs that takes place in the film.
