Reactions and Reviews

1990

This is a nearly flawless story about Kirk and Spock being put through an endurance test by Starfleet. The test is interrupted when Spock is severely injured. The premise is a good one, and the reactions of the characters are superbly handled. There was, however, a missing scene in which we are supposed to learn the consequences of the test having been interrupted. At the end, Spock makes much of Kirk's sacrifice in not continuing with the test. How are we supposed to appreciate the sacrifice, if we don't know what it entailed? [1]
