In only six paragraphs, Amy managed to say a lot. She doesn't say if this is near the beginning of a K/S relationship, but I felt it might be. Spock's feelings were to be expected in that situation and that Kirk "tuned in" and that their love could ease Spock's pain, spoke well for their future. [1]
My first thought to this story was, "What family?" The only family Kirk has is Peter Kirk. My second thought was that Kirk was great sharing something as personal as his family with Spock. [2]
