Reactions and Reviews

Charming tale that has Sulu and Chekov an item who inadvertently "our Spock. This is "the topic" that runs rampant through the ship and a hapless Sulu is confronted by Spock for "information". loved: "The color left the poor lad's face like a toilet flushing"! So Sulu tells Spock that he looks at the captain "with longing". Things get more and more out of control when Spock is due to be bonded and his parents come on board... Totally adorable.[1]

I like to think I‘m not a gossip and don‘t lower myself to the level of those who feed into the rumor mill. However, for this story I must make an exception! The 'topic' is a fairly innocent comment made during a mess hall conversation between Chekov and Sulu, who are lovers. Whether unfortunately or fortunately, the comment - a presumption really – is repeated by Doctor McCoy with enough volume to carry halfway across the room.

'Spock is what? Gay??' The Enterprise is, after all, a closed community filled with people who occasionally have too much time on their hands. And that‘s all it takes for a rumor to grow with a rapidity envying warp speed. When the conjecture reaches Spock, he of course denies it and is quick to explain he is soon to enter into an arranged bonding on Vulcan. To a woman! Enter Sarek and Amanda, come to escort their son to the homeworld ceremony. Enter Kirk, who is informed by Sarek that he has just learned his son is a homosexual and therefore logically must have been having an affair with.... Kirk! In a nasty twist of fate, the biggest gossip aboard ship overhears just enough of the conversation to keep the crew buzzing. The author explains it this way: 'It took less than an hour before the entire crew knew that the Captain was not gay and had not had an affair with his First Officer, which of course meant the Captain WAS gay and WAS having an affair with Spock.'

Sometimes, if a story is repeated often enough, it becomes truth. I loved this one! [2]
