Reactions and Reviews
This isn't my very, very favourite fic ever, but it's one that I've returned to more than once, and which I think is an almost perfect example of fanfiction. The Stranger's Portrait is concise -- not a word wasted -- it has an original character who is integral to the story, while at the same time throwing new light on Spike. It works both as a character study and as a true short story which stands on its own merits. If I had to choose, say, a five-fic reading list to convert a sceptic, The Stranger's Portrait would be in there. [1]
