The Stars Far Away is a Kirk/McCoy story written by Faris Vincent.

It was published in the print zine As I Do Thee #2.

Reactions and Reviews

Basically a K/S zine, available from Asidozines, I was terribly astonished to find K/Mc in it. The publisher rationalized it in the preface with the words: "I came to the decision that McCoy is an integral part of what Kirk and Spock are to one another and, since Spock is the motivating factor in both stories, I decided that he was there if only in spirit..." Addition: the author resurfaced too, and still sees it emotionally as K/S story. It is her right to state her opinion - it is the reader's right to make up hir own mind...

"The Stars Far Away" by Faris Vincent (8 pages) - After the five-year-mission, Spock left to Gol. Kirk and McCoy are there for each other for one night. This is a soft, tender, sexy, believable story and as much K/Mc as you can want, in my rating (and one of my visions of K/Mc). Excerpt:

Nothing of an earth-shaking nature had transpired between them, only an opening of channels previously kept barred by unnamable fears. Now, McCoy knew for a fact that the feelings he and Kirk shared were as beautiful as those any two people could ever share.

Highly recommended story! Would I buy the whole K/S zine for it - yes. [1]

"The Stars Far Away" by Faris Vincent. After the end of the five-year mission and Spock has gone to Gol, Kirk and McCoy enjoy one last, memory-filled evening of drinking. Both eventually become so depressed from the drink and talk they end up staying together for the night in mutual comfort, solace and need. Beautifully told, this story never strays from believable characterization. [2]

In The Stars Far Away (8 pages) by Faris Vincent, Kirk & McCoy meet at the end of 5 year mission, Spock having departed for Gol. Both are rather morose & the story ends with their comforting each other by going to bed together. Nicely written but those who want their K/S stories to feature Kirk & Spock together, be warned it won't. [3]

You may be suprised at your reaction to the almost-K/McC "The Stars Far Away," by F. Vincent. I began reading it with real reservations but was suprised to find that it seemed plausible, it is not a long-term relationship, just a very touching, tender interlude. It took a lot of courage to do this story, given the rather rigid K/S atmosphere in which we find ourselves. [4]

Two friends trying to deal with Spock's departure, comforting each other. The love between Kirk and McCoy in no way diminishes what Kirk feels for Spock, in fact it enhances it. [5]

This is more K/MC than K/S - Spock actually doesn't even show on the page - but the K/S undertones play a major role in the story. This is a beautiful moment of Jim and Bones comforting each other shortly after their return from the five-year-mission and Spock's departure for Gol, which shattered Jim who never confessed his love to his Vulcan friend. As they talk about the burden of loneliness and wonder what they'll do of their lives, they find solace in each other's touch and the comforting hugs turn to something more passionate. There is deep, heartfelt story, with beautiful affection between the two friends, a love quieter and different than what Jim feels for Spock but in its way just as important. A tender and moving story with just a bit of angst. [6]
