The Shining One is a Kirk/Spock story by Janis E. Laine.

It was published in the print zine Within the Mirror #1.

Summary

"The mirror Spock blackmails Kirk, demanding Kirk stay with him in exchange for his silence and the return of the rest of the landing party to their own universe."

Reactions and Reviews

A very short first person account from the mirror Spock’s POV. He has given Kirk a choice. He will help the others escape if Kirk stays as his lover. Kirk reluctantly agrees and they have sex. But when Spock wakens, it’s to an empty bed. After forcing the information from McCoy, Spock seeks out Kirk in the transporter room, but is persuaded to let them all go. I didn’t quite understand where either our Kirk or the mirror Spock were coming from. The story ends with the mirror Kirk and Spock in bed, where Spock has gone to “seek solace.” Why? And were he and that Kirk lovers before? Our Kirk is virgin at the beginning of the story. Does he want his own Spock? Was his apparent enjoyment of being taken by the mirror Spock an act? Too much was left unexplained. [1]
