The Rest of the Story is a gen Starsky & Hutch story by Audrey.

It won two 2005 Torino Awards, one for best action/adventure story and one for best male original character; and in 2009 was third for "Ordinary Day Stories".

It is told from the point of view of an original character, a reporter who is doing a story and temporarily rides with the two cops. The Rest of the Story takes place as Prudholm is on trial for the murder of Terry Roberts.

Excerpt

"I awoke with a start a couple hours later, a crick in my neck and a piece of paper jabbing my earlobe. Up front, Hutchinson had set aside the magazine. True to his prediction, Starsky's head had migrated into his partner's lap. The blond detective stared intently out into the darkness. Despite his earlier threats, he had made no obvious move to prevent Starsky's new position. Instead his hand rested softly on his partner's upper arm, his long, lithe fingers drawing gentle circles on the shirt sleeve. I'm not even sure he was aware of doing it."

Reactions and Reviews

An LA reporter is doing a piece on the human side of cops. Lucky for him, he got to ride with Starsky and Hutch. What is so special about this story, aside from the fact that it's true to canon with the level of intimacy the partners have, is that it leaves open and vague the true nature of their relationship. Starsky and Hutch may or may not be together sexually, but it's left open for the reader to decide. And it's set in the 3rd season, which means even if they aren't together already there's a big possibility that they're headed that way... And since this is an outsider perspective, the reporter is not going to get the entire story. He hears the names of Terri and Elmo, but doesn't know the weight of such matters. He does know that they're important in the lives of those he's watching. And he comes to understand the unique relationship that exists between these two men. It's a wonder to watch. [1]
