The Price of Love is a Harry Potter fanfiction novel. It focuses on the het ship Ron/Hermione, with eventual Harry/Ginny, and is very plot-driven.
Two versions of the story were posted: an explicit NC-17 version at Checkmated's age-restricted "Bedchamber" and a toned-down version to sites including Fanfiction.net that do not accept adult-rated stories. The edited version of the novel is 79 chapters; the original version contains an entire extra chapter as well as many deleted scenes. Two outtakes from the novel were also posted to Checkmated.
The Price of Love remains the most reviewed story on Checkmated over five years after its completion.[1] It won in the category "Best Classic Romance Fic" in a 2010 poll run by the R/Hr Awards,[2] and is often considered one of the most popular Ron/Hermione stories.[3]
Fanworks based on the story include a fic trailer by ana_br[4] as well as a fanmix and fan posters[5] and various fanart, such as The Price of Love by lillywmw, which won "Outstanding Tearjerker Art" at the 2008 R/Hr Awards.[6]
Reactions and Reviews
Novel length and thoroughly engaging from start to finish. AU as it was written before HBP was released but the author had obviously read HBP before she finished her story and tries to tie to it back in. I love the characterization, the author manages to convey how much they love each other while somehow not losing sight they they’re both nervous, inexperienced teenagers. Copious amounts of smut.[7]
