Reactions and Reviews

After an incident during an away mission almost kills Jim, Spock admits to himself just how much his Captain means to him. While trying to distract Jim during his convalescence, Spock tells him a Vulcan myth that lets Jim get a glimpse of the depth of feelings that hide behind his First Officer's stoic facade and better understand his own. An almost-death experience is a common fic trope to make two characters admit their feelings for each other. What makes jesmihr's story stand out is the way she chose to have these feelings be revealed. The ancient Vulcan myth is skillfully constructed, managing to show us the passion that lies in the Vulcan heart and in the heart of one Vulcan in particular. The ending of the fic (and the sex scene that precedes it) were perhaps a bit too mushy for my tastes, but overall this is a solid fic that plays well with some of the classic themes of K/S fanfiction. Having read and liked everything you have on this page, I must say that I LOVED this. It's poetic, even majestic in parts. Great characterisation, moving imagery - I would quote my favorite lines here if there was space - but I at least have to include just this one: "That kind of love, and that kind of grief, could only come from two who held nothing back from each other."[2]
