A 1972 Description

From Nimoyan Dispatch v.2 n.1:

Webster's Dictionary defines a NEST EGG as, "an egg left in the nest to induce the hen to lay more in the same place, hence something laid up as a beginning of a fund or collection, or as a reserve."

The NIMOY NEST is a chapter of the LNAF, defines a NEST EGG as a quarterly publication of the chapter, designed to induce the members to collect copies, write letters, write material for the publications and invite their friends to join the chapter.

How would you like a NEST EGG to start your collection? For information about the Nimoy Nest, write to Richard or Denny Arnold.

Association with "There and Back Again"

This newsletter had a close association with the Tolkien newsletter, There and Back Again.

From the May 1972 issue of "The Nest Egg":

Another change. Now that Mary Kissel is a full time mother, she is finding it difficult to manage both TABA and baby Cathy. Since TABA is one of the oldest chapters of the LNAF we want to keep it going, so the Nest is going to assist. This is no problem since almost all of the Nestlings are also TABA members. The Nestlings will make their home in a Hobbit hole from now on! Sam Cole, bless her boots, mesmerized the Arnolds into taking over the editorial work of the TABA publications as we live close enough to Mary to visit and confer. This means that two sets of publications would be coming from the St. Louis office, so that in [the] future the Nest Eggs and the TABA publications will be combined under one cover to save on postage and wear and tear on the editors. There will be no change in the executive of TABA, merely the addition of a slew of Arnolds and a mimeo.

REMEMBER, your next issue the Nest Egg will be combined with a TABA publication, and will appear in August or September [1972], depending on the weather, and various other things.

cover of issue #3

From this issue, where "Big Bird" is listed as Richard Arnold and "Secretary Bird" is listed as Denny Arnold:

Richard Arnold is stepping down as President. Since he is now working full time and will be attending college in the fall, he feels that there won't be enough time. So as the moment, Denny is acting president, and waiting for a replacement. Any volunteers? Let's hear from you, members. If you would like changes in the structure of the chapter or our publication, let us know, or else we will continue to muddle along as we are.

Despite the editors having issues with time and energy, they take on another project, working on There and Back Again, a long-running Tolkien zine. From the same editorial:

Neither Paris nor Leonard Nimoy ever appeared in a Star Trek story." "'Which encourages us to think we may be able to break away all together," Endicott broke in, "If we can complete this assignment on Drahca, using you two who are no part of this universe, then we will have broken out of the mold of the Star Trek series and can begin to live real lives. Paris too will be shackled."") (4)
