The Message of the Heart is a Kirk/Spock story by Mary Aldridge.
It was published in the print zine Naked Times #4/5.
Summary
"Spock misinterprets a Valentine from Kirk, thinking it signifies the death of their love."
Reactions and Reviews
1997
This 4-page story comes into the category, for me, of "is this meant to be funny?"Spock wakens one morning to find that Kirk has left him a message consisting of a drawing of two hearts pierced with arrows. He immediately jumps to the conclusion that this is Kirk's way of telling him that he (Kirk) no longer loves him (Spock).
Spock's misunderstanding of the symbol is logical, but even at four pages the story is a trifle laboured. On the other hand, it does spell out the message that where there is love, there should be trust even when there is not understanding of a situation, and it is worth reading for that. [1]
