Reactions and Reviews
This is a clever idea, well told. Spock getting drunk and telling Kirk "I am in love with you," was so sweet. I found this story particularly stimulating... and I think it was the mixture of embarrassment/exposure and desire that worked. I do think Shelley writes well.[1]
Don’t you love a fantasy like this? What appears to be an empty hand-crafted wooden box is said to have magical powers, the ability to allow the holder to see his or her greatest desires. Haven’t we all dreamed of such a thing? Haven’t we maneuvered Ouiji boards to find the tall dark stranger in our future? We know Kirk could see his secret desires by simply turning to the man at his side, but instead, he is drawn to the intriguing box. This was a very entertaining and steamy adventure for Kirk and Spock. I’ll bet that box found a place of honor in their quarters, don’t you? Fine storytelling, Shelley! [2]
