Reactions and Reviews
1992
If this is one of the new writers Robin mentioned, she did a very nice job on her story. Its only plot was the bringing of the two together, but I've read many enjoyable stories with only that for a plot. I liked McCoy's realization of what they were feeling and the ceremony he prepared. The love scenes were nice, too. [1]
This Spock, as introduced, was in character: relying on meditation and quite capable of controlling himself yet genuinely puzzled by human behavior (once again). I enjoyed his analytical approach to the possibility of Kirk's sexual interest in him, and found myself wondering during these ruminations if Kirk knew of their link.
Here is possibly the best description of Kirk's thorough preoccupation with his first officer that I've ever read: "Nothing required his attention, and a fleet of Klingon battle cruisers wouldn't have gotten it." [2]
1993
A short story of Kirk dreaming about himself and Spock, culminating with Spock going to Kirk and making love. McCoy finds out and as a gift sets up a bonding ceremony for them.
Although written simply and completely unpolished. I found a lot to like in this story and slowly discovered I really enjoyed it.
It comes across as very direct and uncomplicated If Kirk loves Spock. he just tells him If they make love, it's without pretension If Kirk wants Spock to come to him he does If they want to bond, they do The writing is almost stripped bare of extraneous thoughts or actions -- they touch, they get excited. I found this quite refreshing.
A bunch of "telling"and not "showing", but still involving with some nice moments such as Kirk in the shower thinking about what would happen if Spock walked in: "He'd probably stare at me with that unblinking Vulcan scrutiny and inquire about my health."
Here's an example of the honest, straightforwardness of this story:
- "Then he looked straight into those fathomless dark orbs. "Spock. I love you. Always. Forever. I don't know what it is. but you... you're a part of me. Last night... for the first time in my life I felt, whole... complete in a way I can't even explain.' Warm fingers brushed away the tears. Hot lips kissed the eyelids. 'T'hy'la! You are the other half of my soul, that which I have sought. I would bond with the..." [3]
