“The Insight Series,” by Joann Humby, is an alternative universe that spins off from “Folie à Deux.” It starts from the premise that Scully arrived two minutes later when she came to visit Mulder in the psychiatic ward, with nearly tragic consequences.Two years have passed. Scully is still with the FBI, though on restricted duty as a result of the injuries she suffered at the hands of Pincus. She has been living and working in New York City. She has a life. Mulder, who is now a section chief, has asked her to return to Washington D.C. to take over running the X-Files division.
This is a tightly plotted mystery centered around an unofficial X-file—namely, the inexplicable behavior of Section Chief Fox Mulder. What happened to Scully? What happened to Mulder? Why did they separate? Why won’t he tell her the real truth about what happened to him? Scully is determined to find out the truth, and Mulder is just as determined to make sure she doesn’t. I do love a good mystery and I found this one nearly impossible to put down.
