The Hunger Series by Kim Gasper is a series of three Sentinel stories -- "Hunger", "Feeding Frenzy", and "Sated" -- in which the two main characters, Jim and Blair, meet at a sex club. The series was ubiquitous on rec lists of the late 1990s.

Written in 1997, The Hunger Series was at that time much more sexually explicit than other slash stories, and so was both widely recced and widely imitated, so much so that certain tics in Gasper's storytelling technique continued to appear in other slash stories for years.

Series

  • Hunger - Jim goes clubbing to try and find a substitute for Blair.
  • Feeding Frenzy - Jim and Blair immerse themselves in each other.
  • Sated - What will it take to assuage the hunger?

Reactions and Reviews

Kim is an awesome writer -- one of my all-time favourites. Trying to choose the ‘best’ story of Kim’s to recommend is like backing into a buzzsaw and trying to identify the sharpest tooth on the blade. Hunger, however, has always been a favourite of mine since the first time I read it. Jim, Blair, and one of the absolute hottest sex scenes I’ve ever read.[1]

This is a button fic. Jim and Blair meet in one of *those* clubs, where they've each gone looking for a substitute for the other, and scorching public sex ensues. Whew. Turn on the A/C.[2]

I tried to avoid recommending things that other people had already recommended, but it is impossible to make a Sentinel recommendations page without mentioning this PWP.[3]

Kim Gasper's Hunger, Feeding Frenzy and Sated had me literally gasping for breath.[4]

Kim Gasper has written better stories in her life, but you really just can't beat these for heat. If I recall correctly, they inspired a "burn your face off" section on the archive in their day. You really should read them if you want to have a conversation with any Sentinel Slash fan who's been around more than a few days. Beyond that - read them with your door shut. There are images in these that will stay with me forever.

Best known as "The Hunger Trilogy" or, in some circles: "Kim's stories...YOU know. THOSE."[5]
