The Hobbit Big Bang, originally known as the The Hobbit Story Big Bang, was a big bang challenge in The Hobbit fandom. Authors had to write a minimum of 10,000 words, and artists could make one of the following, digital or traditional art, such as a “bookcover” for the story, a wallpaper, a banner, a fancomic, an illustration, or a fanmix of at least 8 songs that relates to the story including a front and back cover, a video/trailer for the story, at least 10 icons, or a podfic of the story. Stories could be based on the novel or the films. The challenge ran annually from 2014-2017, however the 2017 round appears to not be fully completed because the moderator had to drop their duties unexpectedly.

Title: Lain Low
Author: pherede
Fandom: The Hobbit
Rating: E
Word Count: 87,508
Characters/Pairings: Thorin/Thranduil
Summary: "Mirkwood has fallen, and the Necromancer (they say) has found something he once lost, and orcs and darker things are crawling..." The world labors under the growing might of Sauron, and as Erebor struggles to survive, Thorin is caught between his nephews' machinations, his political alliances and rivalries, and his new prisoner-- the fallen Elvenking Thranduil, whose beauty has been the subject of Thorin's twisted obsession for a century. Will Thorin use his new plaything as a lever against his opponents, or will he break Thranduil's will and despoil him in vengeance? And is there perhaps a third way, a path back toward the light in this broken and befouled Middle-Earth? This very dark AU story contains intense themes and sexual material, but is not intended to be solely pornographic. Lore and speculation, extensive character development, broad thematic scope, and an emotional roller-coaster of internal and external conflict.

Title: Once Upon A Middle Earth
Author: mahmfic
Artist: satavaisa
Fandom: The Hobbit, Once Upon a Time
Characters/Pairings: Thorin/Bilbo, Bofur/Nori, Dwalin/Ori, Fíli/Kíli, Smaug/Bilbo, everyone from the company plus most characters from The Hobbit and OUAT will pop up. Rumplestilskin and Regina play decent parts (because you know they are always the villain).
Summary: While travelling to Bree after a failed lead to find his father, Thorin Oakenshield stumbles upon a strange looking imp and a man dressed in odd clothes with a tall hat. The green-gold skinned imp goes by the name Rumplestilskin and offers Thorin a deal—the guarantee that within the next year he will reclaim Erebor and become King Under the Mountain. Thorin agrees, understanding the imp's terms that 'magic always comes with a price'. But the deal snowballs into several events that cause Thorin and his company to later be included in the Evil Queen's curse and to lose all of their memories and happy endings. Except that Thorin does remember this other life while living in this strange new world. He has to live in it without a crown, watching his nephews struggle from a distance, and worst of all, see the love of his live being wooed by a dragon. About half of the company will get back stories in this fic. Can't logically fit everyone in, sadly. The other characters besides Thorin, have encounters with Regina and Rumplestilskin. This fic will cover all of season one of Once Upon A Time, ending when Rumplesktilskin brings back magic to Storeybrooke. Depending on things, there might be a sequel after the BB is over, but no guarantees

Summary Long ago, when the first Dark Lord shaped the first dragons, the Valar did not leave the peoples of Middle-Earth defenseless against them. They reached out to certain heroes and formed them into heroes capable of killing dragons and making sure they stay dead. These heroes were known as Dragonborn. Now in the Third Age, when in the wake of Smaug's death it's revealed that the ancient dragons of Morgoth are somehow being revived, a Dragonborn is needed once more. But instead of the Valar choosing one hero, they instead split the Dragonborn's soul between two unlikely candidates - Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield. They have to discover who is behind the resurrection of the dragons before the most feared dragon in Middle Earth, Ancalagon the Black is revived, and learn to master their new powers. However, with the Arkenstone lost in the horde, and the siege of Erebor broken by the elves having to withdraw and protect their lands from the orcs streaming to Dol Guldur, Thorin is still struggling with goldsickness. He is only snapped out of it when a second dragon attacks Erebor...
