"A Word to the Reader"
From the zine:
The stories in this zine were ail written by yours truly many years ago. At the time, I was being held captive in the state of Utah, by the higher education system known as college. I'm not bashing the Beehive State, but it was not exactly a hotbed of fannish activity. My stories, along with the ones written by my friends, were all filed away with other fond memories.
With all the renewed interest in Star Wars, I decided that perhaps someone out there might find them interesting, or at least entertaining. I pulled them out of my archives... well, okay, my dilapidated cardboard box, and read through them again. Much to my surprise, they didn't make me run screaming into the night... at least not all of them. The ones dealing with Han and his life after the Deathstar struck me as still having enough merit to share.
These three stories were all written before Return of the Jedi was released. "My Brother's Keeper" was actually done before The Empire Strikes Back. Needless to say, they do not conform to the storyline George Lucas eventually laid out for us. Hopefully you will still find them acceptable, if only in an alternate universe setting.
I originally planned to publish them without changing anything, but as my co-editor, Elaine, was reading over them, she informed me that some of it made her... well, uncomfortable. Since at the time of writing, I had absolutely no idea that Luke and Leia were brother and sister, uh... you can take it from there. Needless to say, I went ahead and re-worked some of the scenes in the last story; Hopefully, this will make it easier to deal with.
I apologize to any purists out there. This is my own little trilogy and deals with the characters in the way I interpreted them at the time. Have fun with them. I did. Love to get feedback, so if you'd like to send me an LOC, feel free. You can reach me at the address on the title page, or by e-mail at [redacted].
Lastly, before I stop babbling and let you read, I do want to thank Elaine for her tireless efforts. I couldn't do any of this without her. And also a great big thanks goes out to Peggy for her wonderful artwork. She didn't even make me grovel.
