Reactions and Reviews

One word: EPIC. Long, plot-y, full of action, and incredibly romantic in a lovely, slowly building, earned sort of way, I couldn’t put this story down. “The Covering Sky” is set after the events of 3x07, where Brienne stays in King’s Landing, and politics (and Jamie) happen from there. All the character voices are so crisp and in-character (I especially liked the handling of Jamie’s relationship with Cersei) and the plot and action of the story ties into the relationships and all of it is just incredibly satisfying and ridiculously good. [1]

Wonderful characterization and I love the exploration of J/B navigating King’s Landing and finding a way out[2]

This was the first Jaime x Brienne fanfic I ever read and it is what got me immersed into the fandom. Before reading this one, I was a Game of Thrones fanatic but I hadn’t been the slightest bit interested in the actual fandom at that point. I’m so grateful I got the urge to check it out and stumbled across this story because it opened the door to sooooo many amazing people and stories that have filled out some empty spaces in my days and life and….well I just LOVE JAIME X BRIENNE.[3]

The fic is AU from season 3 and incorporates book characters and spoilers as well. The premise is that Brienne stays in King’s Landing and then she is the one blamed for Joffrey’s death, and she and Jaime rescue Sansa and go on the run with Hyle Hunt. This fic is a total ride - I felt like I was waking from a fugue state when I finished it, every chapter adding some new twist or complication. Seriously - ALL THE THINGS happen in this fic. Grab some popcorn and settle in with this one; I loved it, but I don’t know how to explain it. 😄 [4]

I looove this AU envisioning of Jaime and Brienne navigating King’s Landing post-3x07 together and how they both grow so much over time (and the love between them)[5]

The slow burn, the dialogues, watching Jaime fall for Brienne, the romance (drunk Jaime trying to dance with Brienne! Cuute!)[6]

This is tough! But one I distinctly remember the act of reading was The Covering Sky by rellie. That fic took me on a JOURNEY and never knowing where the twists were going or what the next one would be was such an adventure.[7]

The most-praised and popular fan fiction in the JaimexBrienne fandom - and with good reason! A definite for this list.[8]

Pretty much the first fic for them I ever read back in Ye Olde Season 3 Days, and I’m still amazed every time I read it. Introduces some book elements but nothing that would confuse the hell out of a show-only fan. Also when this says “slowburn” it means slow burn.[9]

"The Covering Sky" by Rellie. Canon. 136K words. Brienne is a guest at the Red Keep after returning with Jaime from Harrenhal. Endgame. Exquisitely plotted. Thrilling. Epic & a complete classic.[10]

The Covering Sky by Rellie. I had been thinking I didn't ship anyone on GoT yet but JxB was starting to intrigue me and that got me spiraling down the fanfic rabbit hole for JxB content.[11]
