Reactions and Reviews
1995
Believe me, it's pretty rare that I laugh out loud when reading a story by myself. Well, one of those rare moments happened when I read this story. When Spock covered for Kirk and insisted to McCoy that he had indeed replicated the chocolate chip cookie for himself, I fell on the floor. Even now, just thinking of that scene, when Spock holds that warm, melted chocolate cookie and walks off with it, I laugh. It's so difficult to capture such on-target humor, but this author does it. An example of how funny and yet how true to character this story was, was when McCoy admonishes Kirk and says: " 'It won't work, Jim. I know you both too well. I know how he feels about you...'" 'How does he feel about me?'" Then Kirk drags McCoy off to interrogate him about what Spock might have said about him. So perfectly Kirk! "God! The voice, the timber, his eyes, my gut, my cock." I had to go and eat some chocolate chip cookies. [1]
Sweet, sweet short enjoyable—especially Spock with the chocolate chip cookie—but one thing I particularly liked was how Kirk loves to be with Spock when he meditates.
Some choice lines: dancing around each other conversationally, Kirk says, essentially: it would make this easier for me if I knew how you feel. Spock says, "I do not wish this to be easier." I love it. I also love that Kirk sees Spock as "blunt, logical, brilliant and scary." [2]
