Reactions and Reviews

1990

Very romantic story and well drawn characters. Spock reacted just like he should as did Kirk. I'm glad Kirk isn't always totally confident and in control and I think that situations involving Spock are the ones in which he would find himself unsure and flustered. [1]

Watching Kirk get up the nerve to admit his love of Spock was interesting. This story also points out that no matter how attractive other suitors are, there's still just one love for each of them. [2]

2003

This is nice! Spock's good friends, Kirk and McCoy, ever mindful of Spock's need for a mate, after the debacle of T'Pring, get him to Vulcan to look over some candidates for his impending pon farr. I really liked Amanda and Sarek's portrayals here: their knowledge of Spock's need and love for Kirk. Yet they maintain their silence, hoping Spock and Jim will come to their own understanding of their made-for-each-other destiny. It's a nice portrait of loving parents, not so cold as Sarek is usually drawn. One caveat: Kirk had to be almost hit over the head, verbally, by wise old doc McCoy once again, to find out he's the best candidate and that the two men are in love. At any rate, it works. Kirk speaks to Spock in the Vulcan's room and over glasses of r'aitha juice, they hash it all out and create some impressive juice of their own. No love scene, just a promise. I must be a glutton for punishment, because I liked it. [3]
