I just read "Butterfly Bush", as per someone's suggestion. Wow! I am floored. I loved the bit about Hutch hating Starsky for loving him. It's like that, at times, isn't it? And the part about it was all worth it. Also the bit about it's the people who aren't getting it, (Getting it - double meaning, OK!) that are the ones who are condemning it! [1]

I love domestic Starsky and Hutch:) Living together, loving together, it's the perfect image of them... Why this must be read: At home they are protected, they're free to love, the outside world can't find them there. But the world never ceases to intrude and the painful words cut right through the protective web of love that Hutch has created. But does any of that matter? Do the opinions of others really weigh as heavily as the love between them? [2]
My first S/H fanfic [I read] was a story titled The Butterfly Bush. I distinctly recall my reaction to it. Up to this point I'd been reading strictly ST slash. Of course ST slash dealt with homosexuality in the future and seldom dealt with society's criticism of their lifestyle. With a gay couple in current time frame we had a whole new source for angst and hurt comfort--- intolerance. I was definitely on board after that story. And if I recall correctly, when I read this one I didn't even yet know which one was the blond and which the brunet :-). [3]
