The Bonding is a K/S story by Ida Vega. It may be a companion piece to Just Another Night on the Enterprise.

Reactions and Reviews

Nice beginning with Amanda pending a hysterectomy (although I question this particular medical procedure in the 23rd. century) and Sarek attending to her. I enjoyed the lively, intimate dialogue that they had. It is gentte teasing, still sexually arousing and very nicely done. Sarek is outwardly stern but underneath has all the love and tenderness for Amanda. It is also enjoyable that later in the story Sarek divines that K and S are bonded and readily accepts it. Spock comes with Kirk to visit a year alter Babel.

There's a very nice touch of a traditional greeting cup of chilled spring water. Another was the house steward of "only 355 years old". Maybe a little on the high side, but I definitely appreciate the reference to a longer-than-human Vulcan lifespan.

I loved all the stuff about nobility and tradition and heritage. It was very inventive, as well as the anecdotes that Kirk and Spock share with each other Maybe it's just me, but is it strange when Kirk responds to Amanda's inquiry of "How are you?" with "A lot better than you, obviously."?

I appreciated the desire to add some of Kirk's history as he looks at the rose garden, but it's too rushed and thrown in. Interesting interpretation of Kirk's mother being of Native American descent.

Then they have a tiff because Spock didn't want to tell his mother about the bonding before she had her surgery, I didn't totally buy Kirk's anger, nor do I think Spock would use a term such as "half-breed" when referring to himself in his thoughts, unless it was justified.

Uh, oh- stop me before I nit-pick on grammar! Too late... Isn't it: "It's I who should be asking forgiveness..."? Not "It's me who should be..,"? This is more important to be grammatically correct because Spock says it. K and S are bonded in a ceremony and the story concludes in a loving way.
