Reactions and Reviews

1991

This story isn't the first of its kind, as it concerns Kirk having to stand at Spock's side while our favorite Vulcan is wed to a convenient mate, a male in this instance. The climax was predictable, but nevertheless I enjoyed this unrushed telling of the days leading up to the ceremony. I particularly liked the characterizations: Spock's timid vulnerability, Kirk's determination to not allow his own feelings acknowledgement, and McCoy's intense concern that his friends were leading up to a point of no return. For some stories, the sex scene at the end would have been dragging things out, but this author writes them with such sensitivity that I always feel I'm reading something fresh and new, One thing that I thought this story needed was a scene between Sarek and Kirk after the ceremony, since the latter was concerned about the elder Vulcan's reaction. Otherwise, a very well-rounded story. The arrangement of the art illustrating the ceremony made them appear particularly powerful. I really liked the black background. [1]

Even though this story was somewhat predictable, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Kirk stealing Spock away from another man is always fun to read. I think my favorite part was at the bonding ceremony when Kirk, almost without conscious thought, challenged the goings-on. I was glad that the story didn't end there but went on to describe the 'honeymoon' in detail. Delicious. [2]

A wonderful K/S story. I enjoyed it from start to finish. So the story line, especially the first quarter of it, had been used many times and will probably be written many more times, it was nicely done and lead logically into the rest of the story. Kay's description of the houses are elaborate and fun to read. She kept going on until every little loving detail had been covered. In a word: satisfying![3]

1993

Well written. I was very drawn in. Very interesting looks at pon farr and warrior bonds.

Sarek has made arrangements for Spock's bonding: it will be with a male. Pon farr is unpredictable since first one was unconsummated. A unique pon farr concept 'heoc'dh': In a warrior bond, guarantors are required the first time to insure that the party not in fever doesn't instinctively resist another male who is in fever. A healer helps the pair open shields and sublimate the need to dominate, so an equal bond is formed.

Kirk increasingly in a foul mood. since 'Amok Time.' He is shockred and hurt over Spock's upcoming bonding. He and McCoy accompany Spock to Vulcan as his guarantors: and still Kirk won't talk about his feelings for Spock.

The ceremony is all men. Kirk has deja vu experience: challenges the bonding. Kirk finally tells Spock right then he loves him, will bond with him. Spock touches him and the bond begins to form; a mind and body orgasm in the meld: they collapse unconscious -- wonderful moment. A legend has come true, the spontaneous bonding. At the feast afterward, an awed and exhilarated group of Vulcans is an unusual sight. Kirk and Spock go off alone to a summer home (nice place!). Total constant ecstatic sex for days. Very nicely written. Their words of who wants to fuck whom are interesting. Spock must assure himself that he is able to yield, so he wants Kirk to fuck him. Really nice story. [4]
