Series

  • Balance #1: Sandrine's is the start of the series that I'm probably known best for in this fandom - the one that, if you only read it and nothing else, will make you think I'm a very odd little person indeed. Meant to go an entirely different way than it ended up going, it was nevertheless wild, dark, and fun - at least for *me*. February 6, 1998, 14.8K.
  • Balance #2: Words established a few more rules, according to Tom, and the beginning of the terrors that would shake Tom so . . . March 2, 1998, 13K.
  • Balance #3: Seek knocked me right on my ass, because the extra element that this series needed was one that I thought I'd never write - P/K. March 6, 1998, 12.6K.
  • Balance #4: Favour re-establishes a few barriers and re-enforces a few guidelines, all so important to our Tom. March 14, 1997, 17.2K
  • Balance #5: Good was one of my absolute most daring moments as a writer - to go this far and to make it believable enough that I held my breath whilst writing it - the horror, the fascination. . . March 20, 1998, 14.5K.
  • Balance #6: Basic has an ending that I got a lot of questions about - what does Chakotay *really* mean when he says the magic words to Tom? Don't ask me, I'm just the writer. March 28, 1998, 13K.
  • Balance #7: Hunger shows me beginning to crack up, and the start of my descent into the end of these stories - they were literally so fun to write that it was frightening. I was also beginning to feel sorry for Tom, and that was a killer. March 31, 1998, 12.5K.
  • Balance #8: safe is deliberately uncapitalized, to evoke meaning, and was what I was looking for - a bit of explanation, or perhaps *non*-explanation, of just what Tom was doing. April 5, 1998, 12K.
  • Balance #9: Clarity was me going as far as I possibly could and ending on a note of desperation and strange hope, I felt, for Tom and the people he touched. April 9, 1998, 11.2K.

Recs and Reviews

June here: Over the weekend I read a truly different story and I thought I would share. Mona has a new Chakotay/Paris AU called The Balance Series (look down Mona's page for this series; it's near the bottom). It's dark, intense and mesmerizing. It's also heavy on the angst. There are mind games and domination but not enough to put off the average slash reader. Tom and Chakotay are helplessly drawn together but the rules of their game continue to push them apart and into a dark place. If fluff isn't what you want right now, give this a try.[1]
