Page Move

Did this page really need to move? Yes, WangXian is a commonly used pairing name, but it was also fine as a redirect... at the very least, start a discussion about the page name change, don't just move it, please? -- enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:59, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

More common tropes/fic elements

WX canonically have a rape kink in the novel which I think could be noted on this page. I don't have any fanwork examples on hand right now (though there are many) but I figured I'd stick it here as a suggestion for maybe someone else (or myself in the future) to add. This is also a source of contention among fans, which can be mentioned here as well. Sparrow (talk) 18:12, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Top/Bottom Discourse

Honestly this applies to all of MXTX's pairings, but I read this reddit comment that I really wanted to stick on this page cuz it made me laugh but realised this page doesn't have the Top/Bottom discourse on it.

...but it’s true that the characters’ canon relationship dynamic is that Wei Wuxian is a submissive, masochistic bottom, and Lan Wangji is a dominant, sadistic top. There are many sex scenes in the book making their whole deal very clear.

A weird thing about this specific fandom is that the novel was adapted into a cartoon and a live action TV series neither of which could depict their relationship as romantic, let alone sexual, and a LOT of people who only watched the show(s) came away from it with the impression that Lan Wangji is submissive and wrote fanfiction accordingly. Assigned bottom by Chinese censors. 😔

reddit comment to a thread on a hate comment on an AO3 fic mad about WX topping

I think this commentary is q relevant to how the pairing is seen in fandom, but since this is more controversial/wanky and the page doesn't seem to have much of that I'm not sure where to slot it in -Distracteddaydreamer (talk) 16:11, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
