Question: Should this page be in the new Category:Microblogs? Or is that cat for specific fan tumblrs and twitters etc only? It makes sense to me for this page to be in it. -- Tai 01:42, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

tumblr fic traditions

I'm not sure if photofic is the right term, but there seems to be a trend on Tumblr where one person posts a screencap or gif or something, and then someone else is inspired to create a ficlet related to the image. I can't tell if it's part of a specific challenge or if people are just randomly inspired to write fic on Tumblr or if the fic writers are the ones posting the images with the fic, but it would be an interesting topic to cover on Fanlore.--æþel 04:58, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Tumblr management/technical changes 2021 and 2022

again, making a section on the talk page b/c i don't know how best to organize the information/add it on the page. but, this page seems to be documenting changes to the policies and usage of the website and there have been some pretty big ones in the past ~year, after a few years of quiet since the 2018 ban.

• August 2019 -- Tumblr bought by Automattic. This didn't change much for users for a while though.
• 'sometime?? in 2021 front end changes started becoming a regular thing, new features being added, staff becoming more communicative. @changes, @wip, and @staff seem to be the blogs to keep an eye on to learn about new changes, policies, settings
  • for example, ability to edit tags w/o having to delete & rewrite them: official announcement on @changes, a user noting the change was rolled out and that it was useful for them
• Semptember 2022: Community Lables Tumblr introduced a new filtering/labeling feature that allows
  • Feature announcement from @staff: Post, ^{Archived version} with followup commentary by Matt Mullenweg, CEO of Automattic (which owns Tumblr)

Communities

I just discovered that Tumblr now has communities, where members interact with each other. It appears to still be in beta according to blog labs on Tumblr.
