Romanization

AO3 canon tag is Hijikata Toshizou and Wikipedia page title is Hijikata Toshizō. Should this page name be changed?--aethel (talk) 01:08, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

There are multipe valid ways of romanization. I think choosing one is mostly a matter of editorial policy of the website - you usually want to keep it consistent across pages on one website, but there is not much reason to do so between websites. If the person had their own preference, it makes sense for us to use it, but I doubt that is the case here. As far as the names of fictional characters based on historical Japanese people go, I believe creators tend not to use diacritics. "u" for elongation tends to be omitted. That gives us "Toshizo Hijikata". That's only one of many characters based on the person, though. --Potpotkettle (talk) 12:36, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
