Talk:Team

Hey :) Requests for clarification:

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "separately and as a whole." ? I also tried to expand the team definition, as it presupposed one already knows about the SGA definition of capital-t-Team. (What I mean is that there are other teams -- science team, etc. -- so I put it as 'key team') Please correct me if I didn't get it right!
  • Is this used in other fandoms as well? Maybe House or so? Though that's just my idle curiosity speaking ;) Maybe smth. will be added later. --lian 14:21, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
It actually referred to gate teams in Stargate, so I've changed the terminology. It's not impossible for it to be used about "science team" or whatever, but it was extremely rare in my personal experience, and "team" was understood to mean "gate team" in almost all cases. -the old briar pipe 04:25, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Request to rename page

I missed this one after this 'fic-centric' discussion on DW. Since I ran the SGA Team AU fest two years in a row and was extremely active in the OT4 corner, I feel pretty confident in saying graphics and art were a big part of that community. I'm also not sure that "Team" is (or ever was) limited to the Stargates. I know I've seen it in Avengers several times recently. So my question is, can we move this page to "Team"? That's the term I've most often seen thrown around (both now and then). -the old briar pipe 04:25, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Fine by me! The other thing that might be worth thinking about is whether to expand the article to include team-type stories that aren't generally labelled as such, eg ensemble stories, LotR Fellowship stories. This seems to be the only article we have on the general concept? Espresso Addict 05:09, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Holy smokes, you're right! We don't even have an "ensemble" page. That needs to be addressed right away. I think Team and Ensemble are related, but not identical? We could definitely also create further related pages (like Fellowship, Band, etc.) or sections of Ensemble and/or Team.
Do you know how to add a template to attract the Gardeners' attention? -the old briar pipe 05:16, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Well the template is Template:AttentionGardeners, but I have gardener privileges so I can move it once a consensus is reached. (I tend to prefer to leave it at least 24 hours in case anyone in a different timezone wants to join the discussion.)
You're probably right that team and ensemble are slightly different and deserve separate articles, with crosslinks. Espresso Addict 05:35, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Waiting is fine - I don't want to startle anyone whose tracking the page. Off to create an ensemble page! (It's gonna be bare bones because it's past my bedtime, so please jump in wherever you like.) -the old briar pipe 05:44, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
(Putting in two rather one-sided cents.) You can easily have an ensemble story without a team. All it requires is a focus on all or most of the cast, fairly evenly spread. To have teamfic, though, you need an actual team—a group of people so designated. For example, in Forever Knight, an ensemble story might involve significant roles for both the vampire and human characters; yet most of them (apart from the hero) may never meet each other. --Greer Watson 07:18, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
On reflection, I agree entirely. Much better to start a new page; I was just disconcerted not to find an existing one. Do weigh in on the new ensemble article that Briar pipe has just started! Espresso Addict 08:04, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
