Switch to disambig page/potentially misleading redirect?
Ron the Death Eater may refer to Weasely bashing, but it also may refer to TV Tropes' use of the term, which partially covers character bashing. As such, I'd like to propose switching this page to a disambig. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 01:07, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Agreed. I've used "Ron the Death Eater" in the sense of "negative Flanderization" in character tropes sections. We currently lack an article on "Ron the Death Eater" as a subtype of character bashing. Converting this to a redirect leading to both "Character Bashing" and "Weasley Bashing" is probably the simplest way to prevent confusing links in the meantime. - Linking to flanderization and character assassination (which Fanlore does not have articles on yet) could also be an option, as the latter term is similar to character bashing, and the two are sometimes used interchangeably with bashing. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 15:14, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- My personal sense is that character bashing is something done by fans while character assassination is done by creators. The former seems to encompass petty out-of-character interpretations (e.g. writing a disliked character as more jealous than in canon to add drama to an OTP fic), while the latter seems to refer to more extreme and destructive shifts in characterization (e.g. what S8 of GOT did to Daenerys). In any case it would definitely seems worth having an article on character assassination as the term is used in fannish contexts. Night Rain (talk) 08:24, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
