Talk:Real Parent

I believe that this trope specifically relates to the reveal of biological parents; "real parent" seems like it may be an ambiguous term, as an adoptive parent may be considered a "real" parent. Under the definition listed here, this trope may be mistakenly refer to situations involving adoptive parents as well.
- In Batman media, Bruce Wayne's adopted sons, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, are often initially unaware of their adoptive father's secret identity.
- In Blue Exorcist, the Okumura twins are unaware of their adoptive father's original identity until late in the story.
- In "All The Leaves Are Brown (And the sky is gray)" by AvocadoLove, Bucky Barnes' true identity is a mystery to his orphan ward, Tony Stark.
However, I'm not sure that I have the authority or expertise to revise the definition for accuracy.
- I see your point, but I've never actually come across this term used in an other context than "real biological parent" - and the first line of the definition reads
- Real Parent stories revolve around the discovery that a (biological) parent of a character, usually his or her father, is actually someone unexpected.
- I can't think of an alternative title that isn't a bit clunky - it could be "real biological parent"I suppose, but it's not a term that gets used routinely - if anything, it's usually "real father" or "real mother". Everything else falls into tropes such as "family secret", "secret identity", etc.
- I think that removing the brackets around biological and mentioning that this doesn't cover secret identities etc. is the easiest way to handle it, I'll make those changes.
