Talk:Monster Fucking

Thanks for making this page! It's kind of surprising we don't already have it. Although... should this page (Monster Kink should be Monster Fucking or Monster Fucker? I know that Monster Kink echoes other pages we already have, but "monster fucking"/"monster fucker" are used a lot more often in my experience/based on some very hasty comparisons I just did.

  • "monster kink" returns only 17 works (and no bookmarks)
  • "monster fucking" has 114 fics (plus some bookmarks)
  • "monster fucker" has 22 works. (plus some bookmarks)
  • Two works are tagged with both "monster kink" and "monster fucking".
  • None of these tags have been marked common.
• FFA
  • dememe returns 9 results for "monster kink", most of them from a single thread where that was in the title.
  • "monster fucking" returns 124 results, "monster fucker" 8 results.
• tumblr
  • "monster kink" has 21 posts. Several users are responsible for more than one post.
  • Tags with "fuck" in them have been purged/posts that have "fuck" in the tags don't show up in tag search, so there's no way to tell how much "monster fucking" has been used although it was very popular on my dash when I used tumblr for general fandom things, and I don't remember ever seeing "monster kink".
• google
  • ok just "monster fucking" gets a bunch of porn (I mean, fair, but not relevant) so I had to add fic to the search.
  • "monster kink" fic brought back 1,560 results
  • "monster fucking" fic brought back 20,100 results
  • Just "monster kink" without the fic still only returns 9,560 results.

My preference would be to name the page after the term fans actually use... but maybe I'm missing a fannish space where "monster kink" is the preferred term! Twitter or wattpad or something, maybe? I agree that changing it to Monster Fucking would be better if we're going on what's most widely used. I decided to follow the Alien Kink page bc I don't see "alien kink" used so idk if that title is based on what's colloquial. – caes (talk) 17:20, 18 April 2019 (UTC)

I don't think, fannishly, "alien kink" is used (the AO3 tag isn't marked common! gasp) but there's not really one term that encapsulates it, so I think that that's fine — people use tags like Alien Sex and Non-Human Genitalia, and Alien Biology but mostly find their alien kink stuff inside fandoms they're into for other reasons? Meanwhile xeno and monsterfucking are much more specific, uhh, genres which are sort of their own kind of fandom, which people seek out content for specifically, which is why they have specific terms. Looking around it doesn't seem like Fanlore has any specific policy about trying to name articles after what they're most known by, but ships are usually named by what the fandom uses and we changed the xeno page because "xeno" is more common than "xenokink", so there's precedent? - Hoopla (talk) 18:32, 18 April 2019 (UTC)
