Twitter Fic

I don't know where to put this on the page, and I don't have twitter so it would be really annoying to go looking for examples, but I've heard that fanfiction-done-on-twitter (?!?!) is really big for this ship. Which seems like it would be annoying, but apparently people use the structure of retweets and stuff to do cool things like branching narratives and collaborative pieces? Idk, maybe I'll see if I can remember who told me about this and ask them for examples. -- Quaelegit (talk) 22:18, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

It's called "threadfic" and it is, indeed, a big thing in fandom! Threadfics get tons of interactions, but quote-rts and comments are where authors and readers would continue expanding on the piece. Authors can also use the Twitter poll option to help lead the narrative where the voters (readers) want! Threadfics thrive on the fast consumption of content people in fandom really like these days: they're short, concise and very rarely complex in narrative. Mostly they're just expanded headcanons or porn, although the quality really varies from author to author. Since they are "fanfic" nonetheless, maybe they could go on that section? Or as a new subsection of "Fanworks," I guess... I can contribute some of my favorite examples, but they will all be my favorite dynamic, which is also the least popular in fandom. 😬 Seanide (talk) 20:55, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
We even have a page for Threadfic! (It could do with some expansion...) Thinking about where to put these is an interesting question, but perhaps there could be a subsection under Fanfic for Threadfic? --enchantedsleeper (talk) 19:57, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
ETA: I just saw that we already have subsections under fanfic for different work ratings, although I would say we don't necessarily need to subdivide by rating, but we could put the rating as part of the example, along with a small summary of what the work is about. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 19:59, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
Agreed that it would be better to reorganize by trope/dynamic/genre and provide the rating along w/ a descriptiong. -- Quaelegit (talk) 22:39, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
Yeah i didn't finish replying yesterday, but when I got the proper term from Seanide I immediately went to see if we had a fanlore page on Threadfic -- and I'm glad we do! I think it's missing discussion of the qrt interaction and polling that Seanide described here -- if it's okay with you guys i think I'll copy that explanation over there.
Anyways back on topic to *this* page -- Seanide (or anyone else who actually participates in this ship community) -- if you think that Threadfic is prominent in the fandom I think it would definitely be interested to talk about on this page, and include some examples. Don't worry too much about only providing a particular subset of the fic -- just list a few examples that you like/think are representative of the kind of stuff you see, and then you can slap an Template:ExamplesWanted and use that because= field to encourage people to add examples of the other tropes/dynamics that you don't read in. Also if you don't think they're prominent/noteworthy within the community for this ship, it would be great to add more examples to the Threadfic page itself. I can help with archiving/formatting on Fanlore if you get me the twitting links. -- Quaelegit (talk) 22:38, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
