Talk:Hit Counters

I recommend shortening the "how to" part on AO3 up, and provide links to the relevant material rather than all the text. It also needs some cites. What this section needs most of all is commentary about fans' happiness or unhappiness (and all the stuff in-between) about hit counters. Some blurbs pro and con, and links to fan conversation about hit counters on AO3. --MPH (talk) 21:43, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the recommendations. I've removed some of the text from the Preferences section and linked to the relevant help text. I also changed the code in the Site Skins section to be more comprehensive so I could shorten the description, and I tightened up both sections of the Opt-Out section. There's a tumblr post I've been looking at with a lot of replies about hits and how they affect people/should affect people, but there's so many that I'm trying to figure out which to include. Honestly it could be a whole page itself. I'm also going to have to read through the Help:Tumblr page to figure out how to archive/cite them. If you have any older reference for fandom's opinions on hits on AO3, that might be helpful. About how many perspectives should I include before it's too many? -- GoldenFalls (talk) 01:13, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
You've been doing some super work! I think that a separate page just for "Hit Counters on AO3" or "Hit Counters on Archive of Our Own" would be very appropriate and welcome. What page title do you think is best? I can make a new one for it, and help move things over.
When it becomes its own page, I think it will be easier to manage. --MPH (talk) 02:07, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Or "Archive of Our Own and Hit Counters" I kind of like that last one [the best]. --MPH (talk) 03:24, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
GoldenFalls, I can't see the Tumblr post you included because I don't have a Tumblr account. --MPH (talk) 03:26, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
