HTST fans forced come out a bit actor from this media
I don't know if any of you have seen it, but recently Heartstopper's twitter fans forced one of the actors to come out as bisexual after accusations of queerbaiting, as if it were possible for a person to commit such a thing. - Yes, in fact discussion of that on the fanlore Discord is what prompted the creation of this page! None of us were able to put in the work to make a decent summary of the controversy earlier, but i added a post from tumblr (it's commented out right now). As far as I know it happened that someone saw the young actor going on a "possible date" with a girl and was quickly accused of queerbaiting and playing a queer character when would just be a standard straight cis white male. There was a boom in fans of the show accusing him of being a liar. People texting and posting against his lineup, until he himself came out forced by the mob of malcontents. A few minutes later, several publications supporting Connor and criticizing this hatred against him, and of course, the biphobia that he suffered appeared all over the internet. An 18-year-old young man having to come out to the community that preaches love but forgot his values by attacking him was considered hypocritical by some. Now several people are bringing up that many young people use the term queerbaiting against celebrities for the simple reason that they don't live up to expectations about their sexuality. As an example of this I fear Misha Collins who was massacred when he confirmed he was straight, as fans strongly believe in his homosexuality, as they are not used to straight men like him -- Ellakbhesse (talk) 18:30, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
