Rename suggestion.
I suggest changing the name to this page, it's wordy and the AO3 tag listed isn't wrangled. I do get what this page is aiming for though. On TVTropes, this trope seems to be labelled as "Gleeful and Grumpy Pairing", but this language isn't used in fandom much. Maybe Sunshine x Grouch? Optimist x Pessimist? I think "Odd Couple" would be good too. Whatever tag on AO3 would be best fit for this ship dynamic. --Cavewomania (talk) 13:03, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

I don't think this trope is exactly related to pairing opposites. This trope seems to have originated from Twitter recently (around 2020) when ship dynamic memes became popular. I tried seeing if there was any connection between this trope and already existing buddy cop media since that already has documentation here on Fanlore, but after looking further into it, I don't think they're related much at all. I think it's more common in fanart and not fanfiction, so naming it is hard, and a lot of fanworks which really push it are on TikTok somewhere. I've seen The Grumpy One and The Sunshine One or Grumpy/Sunshine in the wild.[1][2][3] It might come from romance book fandom? But I've seen it used to describe ships in various fandoms in recent years.

The AO3 tag isn't wrangled because no fandom freeform wrangling has been on pause for ten years. The lack of a canonical doesn't signify that it's not a thing. You can sort by uses to see the most popular tags for grumpy and sunshine.--aethel (talk) 17:02, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
