I created the page by clicking on a redirect, which happened to have a curly apostrophe, which I didn't notice at first. I made a redirect on the page with the plain one, but maybe it should be the other way around, with the ascii character being given prominence. Are there style guidelines about this issue?--Ratcreature 18:12, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

I don't think we have an official style guideline on it, but I am hugely opposed to using curly quotes. The only way to get them into the wiki is to c&p content from a word processing program that uses them, or to hard-code them in when you're typing in an edit box, so most people are going to be creating straight quotes by default as they work in the wiki. I say we should stick to straight ascii characters. --Arduinna 18:17, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, it probably should be moved around and this be the redirect. You're right that nobody would type it as first choice, because you need to use special keystrokes for that symbol (on my linux for that curly apostrophe it's the really inconvenient compose+>+' to get to ’, which in actual keys means actually six keys as neither ' nor > are accessible on my keyboard without a shift). Only when there are wikilinks with it the mistake is easy to make, when you create a new one by clicking. Of the pages linking to this now, five have a curly one, four a straight, and there is a ton of that in the links to Blake's 7 too.--Ratcreature 19:35, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
