When the article says "Given the high quality of the show, the fandom is surprisingly small." that is no logical connection for me. Or surprising. Not just fills fanfic often in when shows fall short on some aspect, also many other critically acclaimed series (The Wire, Mad Men,...) don't have large fandoms either. So to me show quality and fandom size aren't connected, at least not directly in the sense good show = large fandom.--Ratcreature 14:13, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- That's a good point. Hm. Maybe it should be edited to say something like, "FNL is one of those shows which, despite its high quality, has a very small fandom." I wonder sometimes about that trend -- are some shows just so good that they don't "need" us to fill in the holes in the same way? do imperfect shows get more fic? -- but obviously that's a separate trend. (I'd create a page for it if I knew what to call it. :-) Kass 14:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- Anecdotally, I think the answer is yes. We can name a lot of high quality shows that had small-to-medium fandoms, but there a high quality, non-genre show that had a Very Large fandom? --rache 14:41, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, a lot of people *love* "The Wire," but I wouldn't say it has a big fandom. Maybe a better version of the sentence would be something like, "Despite the fact that it has many qualities that appeal to fans (such as hot guys, blah blah blah, etc.) FNL fandom is not very large." -- Liviapenn 18:54, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
