Talk:Fic Trailer

I hate to be this person, but I don't think your definition is right. I don't think a fic trailer = a vid based on a story, because that suggests that the one is subordinate to the other, and I don't think it is. Zoetrope called her Hindsight vid a "fic trailer", but I think that's a different animal than "This is how it works" or the vids which have been inspired by my stories.--Speranza 00:23, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

To be honest, I'm not sure where to apply the term. I've seen "fic trailer" bandied about on Livejournal, and the Hindsight trailer given as an example. I don't know what or if there is a more general term for vid-inspired-by-fanfic that applies to "This is how it works".--Aethel 00:29, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
I found a reference to fic trailers here on IMEEM. My understanding of "fic trailer" is a vid that's the trailer for the fanfic if fanfic=movie. So, a sort of introduction or flavor or teaser or something from the fanfic? It would have to be created after the fic and in reference to the fic. Except I saw a challenge somewhere for vids that would be trailers for fanfic that hadn't been written yet; they may have been called "fic trailers" as well, I don't recall. --Aethel 00:37, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
I was off trying to do the same thing!--yes, clearly there is such a thing as a fic trailer (I think there have been challenges for them also, for RL novels and such), and I think you're right, it has some sense of a flavor or teaser. I think the thing is that it's subordinate to rather than inspired by.--Speranza 00:45, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
