Talk:DC Comics
I think in the history section the when talking about the "waves" it should be made clear that it's talking about the fanfic writing part of comic fandom. I mean, comic fandom is huge, and one of the first things I found online as a comic fan, before I even found tv fandom, was newsgroups about comics.
Also, in the overview, maybe the status of smaller DC imprint fandoms, like Wildstorm with the Authority, Helix (later Vertigo) with Transmetropolitan, or Vertigo with Sandman and such, should be mentioned. I mean, I think of Sandman as mostly part of the DC Universe for example, but see the Authority and Transmetropolitan as more separate, but I'm not sure how common that is. Anyway, I think DC imprints should be mentioned here somehow, or maybe on a different page for DC as a publishing entity with links to their universes? I'm not sure what the most intuitive organization would be. --RatCreature 08:37, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
I would like to make the suggestion that this page be renamed to "DC Comics," for a few reasons. First, to make it match "Marvel Comics." Second, because it's the official name of the company/source. Third, because it's more intuitive to non-comics fans who might not know what the "DC Universe" is offhand. We can then edit the entry to indicate that "DC Universe" or "DCU is the popular name of the *fandom*. -- Liviapenn 03:14, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I kind of feel that the animated universe fandom and the comics universe fandom are sort of the same, or at least, the same degree of "the same" as superman fandom and Batfandom. Am I off base? --Betty 04:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- And then we had another conversation not documented here, long story short, Betty is off base, article is moved, adjourn to bar. --Betty 05:47, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think there should be a label for DC as a company with an overview of the things they produce in all media and linking to the fandoms (and again I'd like to point to the imprint problem I mentioned above, these fandoms need to be mentioned somewhere), and I think that company is just called "DC Comics" even though there are cartoons and movies too; and then for DC properties as they break into "universes" that fandoms center around and there it gets probably complicated how to break things up, what with the mess of the DC multiverse, the different media, the imprints, all of which influence each other and sometimes cross over. --Ratcreature 05:59, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Huge gap here not discussing offline/pre-Internet fans, fanzines like "Alter Ego" and "Legion Outpost" and not discussing the regular crossover of fans becoming writers outside of Simone. Way too internet focused. --Ang Griffen 15:21, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Uh, get on it, then. That's what a wiki is about. People write what they know. If you think it's too internet focused, then write about offline stuff. --Kyuuketsukirui 15:25, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'll try to add some information in, obviously, but organization becomes a factor. This article could become unwieldy very quickly. --Ang Griffen 17:03, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would be grateful if someone could fill in the gaps. A lot of this article is me, and I only came on the scene in 2005. --Betty 15:38, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
