- I see this is an old conversation - I tried condensing what's there but IMO it still feels a bit like a ship manifesto rather than a brief summary. If there's no objections I may try removing a lot of what's currently there, especially about supplementary materials, and summing it up with something more general along the lines of "Supplementary material often presents Aerith as a love interest for Cloud, emphasizing their mutual attraction and his ongoing grief over her death." - It looks much better now! Thank you for your work. I wonder if the whole "other media" bit could go as well, as it only adds little crumbs of their appearances, unlike the paragraph above which explains more about the ambiguity of canon status. There was a paragraph earlier, it's been changed now, but I had been thinking the other day about moving it to the fandom section instead of canon, after all it explains how Japanese fans interpret the scene. I think that's interesting but the way it's worded now it leaves the bit about the Japanese fandom out. You reckon it could be used for the fandom section? The paragraph was this: A later prequel novella to Advent Children, On the Way To A Smile, was written by scenario writer Nojima and contains the line 'クラウドは女の友人であり、恋人であり——大切なものの象徴であり、守るべき存在だった', literally translated as 'Cloud was her friend, her lover', which some Japanese fans believe confirmed Clerith as canon[1]. The German translation was 'Cloud war ihr Freund, ihr Geliebter', which can again mean mutual lover, and the French was 'Cloud avait été son ami, et son amant', with amant being an even stronger translation. - Yeah! I think it's a little long as-is - maybe we don't need to include EVERY alternate translation - but moving it to the fandom section might work. Maybe some discussion about the fact that a lot of the supplementary material is of unclear canonicity, and differing translations make things more ambiguous? Jackal (talk)
