Talk:Andorian
Does Fanlore have a policy on how to deal with the Star Trek books? Officially they're not canon, but unofficially the writers of the new movies have said they hold more weight now - they also have a consistent canon of their own regarding Andorians which doesn't really reflect what's on the screen.
For example, Shran has a half-Andorian half-Aenar child with an Aenar woman he falls in love with - the series presents it as a very heterosexual marriage, whereas the book series goes back and fills it in with the other partners required for the child to be born in a novel. These books and the series were basically running concurrently. (I have no idea how Enterprise fans resolved any of this - I know there is Archer/Shran out there.)
So this is not really fanon, as it's in pro-books, but it's not really canon either. --Skywaterblue 00:05, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'd say if there's a fan response to certain tie-in novels, then they're worth mentioning. It might be a good idea to add something along the lines of: The characteristics of Andorians established in tie-in novels are taken as canon by fans [if that's the case] and give examples of meta discussions and fanworks that assume these traits. (I didn't know about the four genders!)
- How about renaming "The Fanon Andorian" to something like "The Influence of Tie-In Novels" and then creating another section for fanon that doesn't originate in the books.--æthel 01:13, 2 September 2010 (UTC)
- I took the section and split it into two (Beta Canon) and (The Fanon Andorian). Seeing beta canon listed as fanon was bugging me tbh and I think the subject of how fans interacted with the beta canon on Andorians could probably be added to the new section. -- Error cascade (talk) 06:07, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
